Giving Old Components New Life

An aging turbine with a worn-out slip ring threatened to derail a wind farm’s output. The operators were hesitant about replacing the entire system, so they called Wind Technical Specialists to explore cost-effective solutions. Using cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, the team produced a replacement slip ring tailored to the turbine’s unique specifications.

"Why replace a whole system when a single part can be perfected?” Andy explained.

The result? A turbine performing better than it did on installation day.

Restoring Power to the Peaks

High up in the hills of Scotland, a gearbox failure brought operations to a standstill. The rugged terrain meant accessing the site was no easy feat. But Wind Technical Specialists rose to the challenge, dispatching a team equipped with specialized tools and mountain boots.

“If we have to climb mountains to fix your turbines, we will... literally,” said Andy Taylor, Operations Lead.

After an intense two-day overhaul, the turbine hummed back to life, delivering renewable energy to local homes once more.

Turbine Troubles Resolved in Record Time

When a storm hit the coast, two wind turbines in the same farm were struck by lightning, leaving the operators scrambling. Enter Wind Technical Specialists with their 24/7 emergency service. Within hours, the team diagnosed a fried pitch motor and a damaged generator, sourcing replacement components faster than the turbines could cool down.

"Getting turbines back online before the wind dies down is our specialty,” said Stephen Davis, Senior Technician.

Thanks to their quick action, the wind farm was operational by dawn, saving the client thousands in potential revenue loss.
